Funeral Readings

Within this section, you will find guidance and resources to help you prayerfully choose the Scripture readings for the Funeral Mass. We hope these materials bring comfort and peace as you reflect upon the life and faith of your loved one.

There are two paths you may follow as you begin this journey.

The Planning Path 1 begins with the “Reflections on Life and Faith” of your loved one. This approach offers examples based on the experiences, character, faith, and life journey of the person being remembered. Suggested Gospel readings, along with corresponding First and Second readings, are provided to help guide your selections.

The Planning Path 2 begins by choosing a Gospel reading that speaks to your heart. From there, you may refer back to the “Reflections on Life and Faith” for suggested First and Second readings, or you may choose other readings that hold special meaning for you and your family.

There is no single “right” way to choose the readings for the Funeral Mass. Prayerfully selecting the Scriptures that best reflect your loved one’s life, faith, and the hope we share in Christ is what matters most.
