Marriage
The sacrement of marriage
“The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.”
C.C.C. 1601
What do I need to do in order to be married in the church?
Marriage is usually an exciting and joyful time in the lives of every couple, and their families. And it’s an exciting and joyful time for our parish family too!
The first thing a couple needs to do once they’re engaged is to set up an appointment with the pastor or deacon who will witness their marriage vows. According to Diocesan guidelines this must be done at least 6 months before the wedding.
The easiest way to set up that appointment is either by calling the parish office or contacting the pastor or deacon by email.
The parish Guidelines for Weddings is an important resource that contains all the information you need to get started. Read it here on line by using the link in the documents section before you meet with the Priest or Deacon. Print out a copy for yourself and for your parents, since they like knowing about your wedding preparations. There are pages you’ll want to print out to share with florists and photographers.
All couples preparing for Marriage attend a Pre-Cana Conference. Consult the priest or deacon for the schedules of the conferences held throughout the Diocese. They may also be found here.
Within 6 months of the Wedding day you’ll need to select the music for the celebration, so you’ll need to connect with the Pastoral Associate of Music and Worship.
